I'd spray on CLR or an equivalent. Let it sit momentarily and then rub it off!
Vinegar works too. I put 50/50 vinegar and water in a plastic bag and then use a rubber band to hold it on the shower head or faucet and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes. Then scrub with a tooth brush and let it soak more if need be. Last rinse.
