How can I decorate this room?
I want to make this room more comfortable and am fine with removing everything but TV and curtains, but keep the neutral colors (i.e. no brown, green, pink, etc.). I can't afford to redo the flooring at this time. Any ideas???

Need some ideas on how to decorate or make a design on the backside of bookshelves to be used as a wall divider that will face the dining room area of a rental home.
This is a great room and you have an incredible start right here. I would keep everything you have and just add some key piece items to cozy up the room. You can add drape blankets and throws on the chair/sofa and add some throw pillows. That will make a big difference. I would also add a cozy Moroccan rug to warm up the space. The rugs are expensive, but you can find them on local garage sale sites for free or cheap sometimes if you keep your eye out. You can also ask friends and family to keep a lookout for you.
Also, I definitely think you need some art on the walls. Adding some textile art (wall hangings) is a good way to make the room more inviting and add texture.
You could also add some plants to the space.
I love the black and white theme. I would add some bookcases or some kind of shelving. Consider mounting the TV on the wall or getting a cheap TV stand that you can do something creative with. Maybe consider an accent wall with some cool black/white wallpaper. Maybe some hanging plants. Depending on what you use the room for, you could add some string lights to give it some bling. Some cool large scale black and white artwork (or family photos) would be nice.
Paint the dark wall a lighter color, the tv is lost in the dark. Brighten up the room with pillows like Holly mentioned, a small carpet t brighten up the floor and pictures, shelves, small tables.
Love what you have but I would arrange the furniture differently. I can't tell how big the room is to tell you the exact way to arrange them. But I would put some Blk and wht family photo's or just other Black and white picture's. Also a throw blanket and some pillow's with a pattern with color. Is there anyway you can put the T.V. and speakers on the wall??? You also need a small round table for a lamp. I don't see and lighting . A hanging plant and a few floor plants to make it homey. Have fun....
I would definitely lighten up the walls, way too dark in there! Move the chair out of the corner for sure. Add some colour with pillows and pictures, and get a light or two and tables. Very nice room!
I think the black and white color scheme is nice, and would just add some accessories to add a pop of color. Maybe red.
Thanks! I had the room painted cream and black and definitely want to keep it with those colors! The room isn't that big - 12x11 (?). I'm attaching a pic from the previous owner to show a better idea of layout. I wanted to get a new console and either a sectional or two large chaises or chair and a half with ottomans, but not sure how to place all the items. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of extra large family photos and mounting the TV!
Put light colored area rug to enlarge look of room and use huge floor pillows over your area rug with very low table and let the waitscotting be used as actual 'frame' for flat mounting black & white photos family or vintage photos ... old bridges etc. Keep everything unadorned and let your glassware do the talking ... What is the room to be used for ? I call this Berber Japanese style ... very inexpensive but have guests wear slippers to avoid tracking in dirt where you will be sitting at a very low level ... If you are young this works ... furniture is too expensive & doesn't last ... Not made well anymore ... Save the money ... Invest in rather art deco-ish wall sconces hung / mounted at low level ... Black & creme is very art deco ...
I would mount the TV on the black wall or else place it on top of a cream dresse (the same color as the bottom portion of your room). Add some silver or gold accent accessories to reflect light around the oom. Some crystal or clear glass lamp bases with cream shades would look good. The addition of seveal plants in vaious bots of cream or black and then textured pilow (you could make them). Add cream or black rope by sewing by hand some braid, cotton rope, etc. Your artwork could be simple and also black and white. I love the idea you have going with the black and white. If you want a spot of color, add that in with a couple of throw pillows in your favorite color.....maybe teal, fushia, yellow...pretty much anyi color that makes you happy. A large blingy mirror would be great as well. Just have fun chosing pieces you love that are classic/sophisticted to go with your black/white theme.
