How to transform a shoe shine kit into something pretty or useful?

I’m following this as I just acquired one.

Thenone I got is about 80 years old and since we still have shoes I'm keeping it as that.

It also struck me as a first aid kit or even for parties to put napkins and plastic ware in. Great conversation piece too!

I have one you can sit on. Rectangular with the metal foot pad on the top. I store two throws in it during the summer.
