How do I get a plant to survive ?

Not you typical DYI but no one can help me. I have a very healthy holiday cactus that I knocked over and broke pot. Instantly the cactus went limp, lost its color and form. I replanted and.this has been 3 weeks ago and it still looks on deaths door. Lifeless . What can be done? I’ve never seen anything change so quickly. Plant people on Facebook do not help me. This is of sentimental value to me and I’m so upset!!! Please help.

Is it possible that you have cracked some of the stems and never noticed? If so then you will have to cut the damaged stems off. Try a little Schultz fertilizer to see if you can get it to perk up. Pinching back the stem where there are two or three lone leaves coming out to one on the end of the stem should help take the pressure off. You may notice that after nipping back, two or three new leaves will come on the end and make that many new branches which will give you more flowers and a thicker plant in the long run. Good Luck!!

I finally throw my plant away, it became sadder as each day passed you could see the big veins trough the stem. I do not understand how it could go lifeless within mere minutes it seconds.

Sorry about this....hope you can save it. Just to be safe (and start a new one) can you break some of the branches off and put them in water so that they root and you can plant them in another pot? Just a precaution in case the big one cannot be revived. I do this and at this point I need to give some away because I have two big pots and two little new plants that I rooted. Good luck with your plant.

I love my Christmas Cactus also. I would go to the green house and get another one. Unless you can get the one you threw away back and start over.

They are so easy to start new ones by taking a slip and potting it into water until it roots. It will take a while to become large again but patience is the key to any good gardening. Once it is established try a bit of the Shultz liquid fertilizer as per instructions.
