The Garden Frog with C Renee on Aug 22, 2014Flowers can eventually come up through mulch; however if you laid paper on top of them I am afraid they will not. You need to uncover the flowers from the paper and lightly mulch the plants so they can feel the sunlight and grow. good luckHelpful Reply

Douglas Hunt on Aug 23, 2014I'm not entirely sure what you mean by covering flowers in the ground. If you have bulbs and things that have gone dormant, newspaper should have decomposed by next spring when they are ready to come up and they will be able to push through it, as well as a regular-depth (2 to 3 inches) of mulch. You should not lay newspaper and mulch on top of living plants.Helpful Reply

Ruth Wolery on Aug 23, 2014@am If the paper has disintegrated by next spring that should be a possibility, and yes the flowers should come through mulch if it isn't too thick.Helpful Reply
