Run an empty load and add the usual detergent to it. Also, vinegar is a deodorizer and that can be added too. It also kills molds / mildews which are often the source of the odors. I use 2 cups of vinegar per empty cleaning load.

I found that if I leave the lid open for about an hour after doing a load of laundry it gives the tub time to evaporate away the dampness.

  • Hi, Virginia!

I've used vinegar run through an empty wash cycle or there are tablets that can be purchased at home improvement stores that clean the tub and remove odors. The brand name is Affresh and they can be found here: https://www.affresh.com/ Hope this helps!

If it is a front load style then clean out the gasket area. I use a spray soap like Mrs. Meyers. Clean the window too. Then run a load with the vinagar thing and and hot water on the longest cycle. Running a load of whites with chlorine bleach can do the trick too. Sometimes I just spray the washer with white vinigar after washing.

On on either type of washer leave the door open or the top up between loads.

I use 1 cup detergent 2cups vinegar or 1 cup detergent 2 cups baking soda using the hottest settings helps clean drain hose too --do not use both vinegar and baking soda they just cancel each other out(baking soda stops the function of the acid in vinegar); wipe out rubber seal/ring around door( Front end loader) with vinegar & hot water; leave the door or lid open after each use so it can dry out, if you have front end & door will not stay open put something in it like a dry washcloth just so it stays open enuf for air circulation. good info. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEgcgan9XOg&t=15s

Run the washer on Boil wash with no clothes or powder in it. only add washing machine de-scaler. This should sort things out. If that doesn't work, it could be you have a build up of gunk in the outlet pipe or in the drain!
