How can I cover skylights to reduce the heat from the sun?

Anyone have any inexpensive DIY ideas for covering large skylights? I love the bright natural lighting they provide....although, with summer now upon us & no AC, the heat produced has made the common-area literally unbearable. Any suggestions? TIA!

    Hello Lyla,

I had the same problem and used a number of solutions.

    1. White wash or emulsion paint
    2. Net curtain
    3. Window Cling
    4. Transfers
    5. Contact for windows
    6. Rooflight blinds

    All work........

Thanks for sharing! I really like the window cling idea. Will want something removable come fall...lol

Definitely looking into this option 1st!

You can get curtains made for the sky light, or put up bat insulation and cover the insulation with fabric.

Thanks ...I haven't priced the curtains yet ($ afraid $ 😉) Funny thing...I don't sew (traumatic Home Ec experience in middle school) yet, I picked up a bolt of (clearance) material last night...definitely didn't foresee it being used for the windows (until reading your reply! I'm gonna perceive that to be 'sign' & head back to store to purchase batting material & some type of bonding agent! lol
