You could, but it wouldn't be best practice.

    HI Susan,

As Morgan said, "you could". Here's the problem. Sometime in the future the old wallpaper will come loose than you're in trouble. It's hard to fix it when you have 2 layers. Even the moisture from the paste of the new wallpaper could let the old wallpaper loosen. There's a chance that once you finish your room, some of the old wallpaper could let loose and all that work would have to be redone. That's not fun, so I strongly suggest that you remove the old wallpaper before applying the new one. Wishing you the best.

  • It's really not a good idea. Your best bet is to remove the old then put on the new.

The optimal way would be to remove the wallpaper that is already there.

If you choose paper over this, the wallpaper paste might be damp enough to make the original wallpaper loosen, revealing a bare wall with 2 layers of wallpaper hovering over it or noticible bubbles where it came loose.

I would remove the old one first so that it stays on the wall better

  • You can, but it's not the best idea. If the original wallpaper starts to come loose in any area, your new wallpaper will too.
