I trust you will find this video helpful.
My son had this problem tried some leather paints -for repair-worked for a brief time then it degraded once again. He ended up placing a microfiber couch slipcover on to eliminate the eyesore.

You could re paint it
find a leather cloth or a pat-turn to match then get the shape of the hole and the cut it size as the hole and then care-full-y sew it to the couch
Repairing a split leather, bonded leather or faux leather furniture piece is not worth IMHO cause its going to continue peeling.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTytjGmW3Q4
If it's flaking, it is not genuine leather; it is bonded leather
Richard's suggestion will not work for you.
Neither will painting, as paint will only temporarily cover the damaged areas. It will not prevent further peeling.
I agree with Sharon.
He may have to just cover it. https://www.amazon.com/Wear-Resistant-Universal-Sectional-Slipcovers-Texture-Gray/dp/B0C43NK738/ref=zg_bs_g_3735891_d_sccl_4/143-9998230-8402238?psc=1
I think a slipcover is your best bet. You could consult a professional leather repairperson, but once it starts to peel it's hard to correct.
On leather furniture, the finish or paint typically begins to peel first. The primary factor contributing to leather peeling is dehydration. Leather that is peeling can be repaired using a variety of techniques, including as paint, binder, and filler.
