Purdy makes good brushes but there are lots of variables for the paint. Best to go to your local stand alone paint store like Benjamin Moore and explain your project. They are the experts with products and brushes. Stay away from the big hardware stores, most of the workers, are just temps and usually knows little of the products.

Go to Sherwin Williams store. Their paint is wonderful and the staff helpful. They will find the right product for each of your projects and tell you which brush to buy, how to prep the concrete and shutters before applying paint. You really can't go wrong with them.

I'm glad you went to see them. Make absolutely sure you follow their advice on prepping the surfaces. Otherwise, you will be less than satisfied with the results. Prep takes at least twice as long as painting, maybe more. Pay attention to the cracks, corners, etc. of the shutters to be sure it is clean, free of debris, and sanded. Dust is not your friend. Also, everything needs to be dry so if you use water, make sure you allow drying time.

  • I always use purdy brushes. I like the short handled angled brushes because they fit in my hand well and I can get in tight spaces with the short handle.

For paint, use concrete paint. And make sure the surface is clean and dry before painting.

Do not be tempted by the low price of 'dollar store' or any similar cheap no-name brushes. It is hard enough to get attractive results with diy projects, even for those who have previous experience with the particular project.

If you shortchange yourself with inferior materials, you will be less than successful with the outcome.
