Is it teak, painted, treated wood?

If teak sand and use teak oil, if painted, clean, sand and repaint. Treated wood, sand, prime with exterior oil based paint, resend, paint with exterior latex paint or spray paint.

Hi Monica, Stain - many colours with preservative included, or Chalk (Opaque colours) both types from Fencing dept at DIY. Otherwise use a primer, undercoat and Gloss topcoat.

You could do them all the same colour or 2 colours or mix and match Multi colours.

You can always sand it and then spray paint it. I'm including a link that has some great outdoor furniture makeovers and you'll see how amazing these pieces look with a fresh coat of paint.

Hi Monica, you can start by sanding smooth, then decide if you want to paint it or stain it, a semi transparent stain will let the natural wood grain show through while penetrating to protect the wood from the elements. You could also paint it a solid color or several colors to make it a focal point in your yard.
