I would suspect that the blind perforations Or notches where the strings were running or cut off and discarded since they’re used in a tile like fashion. Drybrush is a technique where the paint brushes are relatively minimally loaded with paint dry then apply to the surface with the dry fashion make it stringy striated opaque look.

You can always post a question to the DIYer directly in the comments, but it looks like they may have cut the slats between the holes so they didn't need to be filled. However you could use a simple wood filler and then paint over it.

While this project has been getting a fair amount of 'talk' lately, it is meant to be attempted with faux wood slats from former blinds, not metal or plastic venetian slats.

Keep in mind that any of the following factors will affect the success you have in getting the pieces to stay adhered to the wall:

• the length of the individual slat pieces
• how straight or warped the pieces are
• how precisely the pieces are cut
• the quality of the glue used
• the degree to which the wall was level or not
