HOW did you plant it???? IF you dug a deep trench, 3' o r so, and filled the bottom half with a mixture of earth and peat moss, then formed cones of that material, and spread the octopus like roots of a dry roots asparagus plant, like i did in 1987, over the cone and covered them ONE inch with dirt, down in the hole. Water. Every time the new growth is about a half inch above the dirt, ADD more dirt and cover it about an inch. Continue until you reach ground level, DO NOT cut the first year, and little or none the second. I live in Montana, and have beautiful asparagus to this day, 2019.

Hello, To keep your asparagus bed productive, The first year after planting, you can harvest a few spears from each plant. Pick for about two weeks and then stop so the fronds can unfold and begin feeding the root system. Harvest for three weeks the next year, and four to six weeks after that.
