How do I age a piece of white material?

I have a piece of white painters drop cloth that I want to make look old and tattered. How can I do this?

Soak it in tea
Wash first in hot water and black to remove the water proofing, then soak in coffee or tea. Tear a frey edges.
Soak you white material in coffee or tea, if you need to, do this with an old white t-shirt.
