How can I downsize my basement?

Are you trying to get rid of stuff? I'm not sure I understand what you're looking for.

if you live in a basement, you need an egress window installed. most basements have only 1 place to access the basement, if a fire starts the window is big enough to get out. depending on the space available, a small stove, smaller fridge. you need a bath room and a kitchen, some counter appliances work well, crock pot, electric skillet, microwave, toaster oven. there are stacking washer and dryers available. I live in the Midwest, blink and the weather changes. have throw rugs at the entry. if hookups for washer and dryer-use them. another space saver is a pull out sleeper sofa for guests.

Why do you want to downsize it?

Part is finished; part isn't? Plan your layout and build a wall: a cement drill and screws to hold the footplate and first stud into the wall. Then your typical studs, top plate, drywall, etc. Drop ceilings are probably the best solution up top. You will need access to plumbing and electrical, and have them low enough to cover heating ducts if you have those.

Separate the laundry from a casual den? Let the den master build the wall! Just leave enough room for you to work and enough air circulation (exhaust fan?) to keep the damp and heat from getting trapped.

Block off (necessary but not beautiful) furnace, water heater and any other major appliances? Check your owner's manuals for minimum clearance and be kind to the repair people. They need enough room to maneuver and reach all around to check and replace as needed.

I'm assuming you know the cement walls support the walls and house above it so you can't start jackhammering parts out. If there's a problem, you need to fix it, not hide it away.

If you are wanting to downsize the items, do a purge with 3 piles: donate, trash, keep. I use the 12 month rule, if it hasn't been used in a year it goes.

If you are looking to make the area smaller, you can put up partitions. Either permanent or temporary.
