Can I upcycle a baby crib into a garden bench - can it support weight?

Neighbor gave me her baby crib. Gail--My Repurposed Life; has the exact same crib she upcycled, as what I received. My question is; I'd like to do the same, but want it for my garden niche. So I can store a pillow, or blankey, or garden tools, lol! Hubs says it won't support an adult's wt. I KNOW! It can be done! But how? I won't touch it til I can be sure. Otherwise? It gets a new life in different ways, lol! TIA!

You could put a wooden bottom in it and make it more like a bench. Similar to this project. Just make sure you use heavy enough wood for the weight you want to support.

Do you have any woodworking or carpentry skills? The frame itself needs to be beefed up to accommodate at least average adult weight. Then add a sold surface or hinged as shown in Kathy's example. I suggest shopping at a proper lumber yard rather than a home improvement center, they have a better selection of wood at many price points along with staff that are all wood workers themselves that can provide you tips.
