How can I clean the smell of dog urine off of my hardwood floor?

I use this:

½ cup apple cider vinegar

1 tsp blue Dawn

2 gallons warm tap water

You can also add 1 cup hydrogen peroxide to 2 gallons warm tap water. I'm sure dawn won't hurt it.

OrangeGlo adds a nice luster once the build up is removed.

If your floors are laminate and not true hardwood the issue is that the urine has gone through the cracks and is under the flooring. If this is the case you’ll have to pull the flooring up, clean up the mess and install new pieces of flooring because the pieces have likely soaked up some urine as well. If you have true hardwood flooring you probably have the same issue.

Ginny, sorry to play dumb but how are you watching little Fifi if you're coming home from work? I'd get the dog a crate. My 3 love their homes and get angry if anyone else touches one hairy toe inside theirs. (I shave my hairy toes so I'm safe.)

Line Fifi's crate with a disposable pee pad to better gauge whether this is a jealous heart or a tiny bladder issue.

Does Fifi get water before he comes to visit? Check with his vet, but unless he has a physical ailment, he should be ok without water till you get home. I have two 12-lb Chihuahuas and a 45-lb lab/pit bull mix.

(Guess which one will bite? ) Everyone goes out for their morning business and back into their crates without benefit of food or water until I get home from work. No one turns left for the food or water bowls. They all turn right and jump back in for their first nap of the day. They also have chew toys and teddy bears to shred.

I wouldn't leave you without some, I hope, helpful advice. I get all my stuff from Chewy online - no endorsement except the advantage of not having to lug 20 lbs of cat litter up the steps. (Oh, 3 dogs, 1 cat.) They have Nature's Miracle Stain and Odor Remover. It's enzymatic formula works quite well.

I can also get it at my local hardware store in the pet area, not the floor cleaning section, and it's always available at my local pet store. (It's all about the same price - just make sure it's enzymatic - but then consider there's the UPS driver's cute calves saying hi below brown shorts 😃)

If you want to remove the odor you really need to use a pet enzyme cleaner like Nature's Miracle otherwise it won't remove the odor.
