I would definitely add some more shelving over both the washer and dryer and the sink. Shelves that you can reach and store every day things. Looks as if the floor is cement. You could do some peel and stick tiles--using a preadhesive first so that they can really stick down or you could do a vinyl floating floor. If this area is damp at all I would place a dehumidifier in this room. You could also crate a table like wood piece for on top of the washer and dryer to use as a folding area. Use decorative bins and boxes for storage on the wire shelves that are already there. A nice piece of "laundry" art would look good on the wall between the sinks and the washer and dryer! You might consider a lighter brighter color for the walls too!

Just fixed up my laundry room. Brighten it up with a fresh coat of a semi-gloss paint. Semi gloss will reflect the light a little more making it brighter and be easier to clean also.

Paint after cleaning the walls and patching.

Cut a board and hang it over your washer and dryer to make a folding area. Your washer and dryer seem rather high can you removed the pedestal under them?

I would buy a insulation kit or wrap your water heater with insulation, That will help it retains the heat in the water for longer periods of time. Or put a timer on the water heater so it is only one when people are at home and off during the night when people are sleeping. Why have hot water on tap when everyone is sleeping.

    Add floating shelves for storage.

This is going to sound silly but it is very unique. Check out the laundry room decals on Amazon.com I am going to order one that reads "Laundry Room: Drop Your Pants Here".

If you can find a folding door I would put it around the hot water heater. Might check yard sales or flea markets. Also a shelf for necessary items, detergent, softener, sprays, etc. I also think laundry signs are cute. You can pick some up at Hobby Lobby just take your 40% in to get a better price or watch for 50% off. Hope this gives you a few ideas.

If you can change from shelves to cabinets, I highly advise it. I did that 2 years ago and it helped the looks so much. Add bins or baskets if you can't do cabinets. It looks like you can add some more shelves as well.

Add a skirt to the sink. I used a shower curtain and attached with velcro to my utility sink. It made a world of difference. You can apply contact paper if you want to add color without some type of skirt.

You can find some cute decor items at Hobby Lobby. I even got some at Dollar General and the Dollar Tree. It helped to cheer the space up.

Stain the concrete or add some type of rug.

Paint the walls with a bright, reflective color.

    "Hide" the water heater.

That sink!!! It is just like the sink in an old schoolhouse my parents bought years ago. So maybe your decor could center around school items.
