How can I nurture my squash plants to grow full produce?

My summer squash starts to grow, then dies. It gets about the size of a quarter, then rots.

Over watering can cause rot. It is recommended to use a trellis when growing squash. If not a trellis then try a natural mulch (wood shavings or straw) under your plants. This will maintain soil moisture and prevent over watering. Hope this helps.
