My brother has always wanted a rocking chair, so I figured I could gift him with one.

Not wanting to spend a lot of money I suggested buying a second hand one and restoring it. But he's a bit like me and loves a pop of colour - so seemed a bit boring just to varnish it again .

I lightly hand sanded the surface using a medium sanding sheet and washed it with sugar soap.

Once dry I started painting using my favorite paint. Frenchic

First coat

I opted for yellow as my brother currently lives in China. He is planning on influencing his home decor with an Oriental theme.

Some of the furniture he has collected has a similar colour to this one. I had the idea to tie it all together with this colour.

I applied 3 coats in the end. And a forth coat on the area's I felt would get knocked around the most.

Eg. Arms, feet and seat.

Once dry I placed it in his room waiting for his return. It is looking really sweet!

(With some wool for knitting)

I hope you like it too!

I think you did a lovely job. What did your brother think of his new rocking chair that you got for him?
