Since you don't want to block the intake of air, you don't want to completely cover it. I would recommend building a wood box without a top or bottom that can be slipped over it to hide it. Make sure there's plenty of room for the air intake.

The most important consideration is air flow...the unit must have a good air flow around it. Air conditioner condensers are hot by nature and need good air flow through the fan the unit cooled down. With this in mind, lattice would be a good choice. Just build a simple frame out of 2” x 2” or 2” x 4” and attach the lattice to it.

Add lattice around it but make sure you have at least 2 feet of clearance on all sides, according to my HVAC guy. Preferably more unless you make them removable.

You could make a table out of it by making a frame and then using lattice to enclose it as it needs to get air to operate properly.

Our air conditioner is open at the top.....so not possible for a table. I think a three sided lattice fence around it might work. Must have air on top and on the sides for air flow. If it is on the patio, how about some potted plants placed around it...but not too close. Or a couple of patio chairs with their backs to the air conditioner.
