DIY Vintage Doily Cloche Covers
Soak them in undiluted liquid starch.
Stretch out to shape over a upside down bowl.
Air dry.
here's recipe Dissolve 1/4 cup starch in 1/2 cup cold water.
Bring 1 1/4 cups water to a boil.
Add starch solution to boiling water and cook and stir, bringing to a slow boil till mixture thickens.
Remove from heat, cool to warm.
Dip crocheted items into starch to cover well.
Smooth off excess starch with fingers.
Gently shape(on balloon or object) or lay the piece flat on a clean kitchen cloth and let dry out completely.
This solutions makes for stiff or hard doilies.
Excess starch solution may be stored in the Fridge for up to a week.
I may be dreaming, but I swear I remember my Grandma crocheting doilies and soaking them in sugar water and drying them out to make them hold a shape. Sounds crazy, but familiar. Anyone else heard of it?
