what is the best method to keep deer from eating flowers & vegetable plants?
Purchase Liquid Fence and spray. it smells bad and you don't want to do it on a windy day but it is the most effective. Here are a couple of other fairly effective things: Irish Spring bar soap shredded or human hair (you can get at a hair salon)
Put up some sort of fence if possible.
I Understand that Grated strong smelling soap is a good idea sprinkled around the entrance and in fact anywhere the deer can get to. Otherwise I fear it is a high fence or wall. Best of luck!
Generally fencing and cautious plant choices before planting.
This was one of my exam questions.

Generally unless you want to construct tall fencing being aware of what deer like and dislike is advisable and to be aware of repellents effectiveness.

3- Research has shown that, while that odor repellents tend not to work, taste repellents can be very effective. Any repellent with egg solids, blood, hot pepper, or capsaicin as an ingredient is your best choice. Some repellents contain both eggs and hot pepper or capsaicin, and those work particularly well.
Put up a sign that says "no deer allowed". If they can read, you'll be all set.
Seriously I saw a movie where Michael J Fox urinated around a perimeter and that kept deer away.
If you decide to do this, watch out for the indecent exposure cops.
There are only 2 things that will work. Ignore all the soap, hair or any noise makers. Waste of time and resources. Liquid fence or a real 8 ft fence. I have never used liquid fence on things I eat only my hostas and flowers. The idea of it grosses me out but maybe it won’t hurt and items are still edible? Research. Maybe the border only might work?
