Nancy, if you put them in a brown paper bag, they will ripen. Very fast. Depending on the stage going in the bag, they could be ripe next day. The brown paper traps the natural gas that ripens fruit and accelerates ripening.
I heard that you could put them in a bowl with a banana and they ripen quicker. I haven't tried it yet.
Wrap in newspaper individually, place in a cool dark place and check daily.
You can put them in a box, wrapped in newspaper, in the basement. I do this at the end of the season, when I'm worried about frost but still have tomatoes on the vine.
