How do I get wax out of carpet?
My knucklehead teen spilled hot wax on the carpet. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove the wax? Or should I just sell the kid and use the money for new carpet? Thanks!

Using brown paper bag, place on wax spot and go over it with a hot iron. Keep changing the paper bag and continue until the paper has absorbed all the wax. I have used this on my rental and it works.
Thanks Judy! I'll give that a try!
Depending on the type and color of the wax, and type of carpet, you might just want to sell the kid, LOL. If it isn't red or some other color with a dye that's difficult to remove - go with the Heloise stand by. First harden the wax with some ice in a baggie and pick out as much as you can. Almost any tool will work. Then, take a warm iron and melt the remaining wax through several layers of paper towels. As it softens, scrape and blot it up. I've used a butter knife for this. Repeat until there's really only an oil stain left. Then, you can use a detergent, like Dawn, with a bit of water. (it's a good idea to make sure it is color-safe on the carpet). Dab it on, agitate with your fingers and blot it up with a towel. You can do that a as many times as needed. Make sure you rinse all the soap out and blot that up, too.
There's a great guide here - just use a paper bag and an iron! https://www.hometalk.com/diy/clean/carpet/how-to-get-wax-out-of-carpet-44824237
Scrape out what you can and then lay Kitchen roll on top and apply warm iron.
Start with freezing the wax with and ice cube or a freezer pack. with a dull knife scrape out as much as you can. Then take a warm iron (no steam) and iron paper towels or a brown paper bag (plain side down) and draw the wax out with that, check often.
Hi Pati: Use an ice cube to harden the wax and scrape as much of the wax off as you can. You may even use a comb to do this. Then, when you have all you can get off, put a paper towel on the area and use an iron to melt the rest. Be sure to start with a low heat so that you don't melt your carpet. You may have to do this several times, but it should work.
Position an ice pack, an ice bag containing cubes, or even frozen meat onto the wax. To keep the wax dry, you might want to cover the pack or bag with a cloth. To make the wax harden and lift up from the carpet fibers more readily, the objective is to get the wax as cold as possible.
scrape off all you can and then use absorbent kitchen roll paper to cover. then iron over to melt the wax and then maybe use carpet cleaner.
Hi Pati, hope this helps you. Grab a cotton tea towel and you clothes iron. Heat up the iron and place the tea towel over the wax spill, gently press the iron on for a second then lift and check to see how much wax is on the towel. shift to a clean spot and repeat, then again until you don't get anymore wax on the tea towel. you can wash the tea towel in the laundry once you have finished.
Dampen a white cotton towel and place it over the wax. Press an iron set on high over the towel for 10 seconds. The heat will draw the wax out of the carpet and into the towel. Repeat until the wax is gone. or Mix ¼ cup white vinegar with ¾ cup water to dilute it, then apply the mixture over the stain with a spray bottle. Let it sit for about 30 minutes and place a clean cloth on top to absorb the stain. You can also try rubbing alcohol following the same steps.
Heat. Use hair dryer and a rag. Heat to melting then wipe it up.
I have used the "ice" method to harden and scrape the majority of the wax away, then used the paper bag and heat method. You can then use Dawn dish washing liquid and HOT water to wipe up the remaining wax using an old wash cloth, then rinse well. Likely good as new! Don't sell your kid.....have the teen help you the entire time you're working on the wax issue. Maybe they'll learn a fact that'll be useful to them in the future. :)
