How can I make over an unused vegetable garden?

How can a vegetable garden 20x15 be made to be a weed free area - besides doing a costly concrete slab?

    You can create a rock garden, or build on it, like a gazebo. Make a small pond with waterfall.

    mulch films are available in many sizes, it's a plastic sheeting, fairly durable. lay out the mulch film, cover with wood chips or rocks. potted plants or other on the corners to keep in place. add a fountain if you want to. add an arbor if you want.

    Put down landscape fabric, then Preen mulch. Then you can plant by poking small holes or sit potted plants around.

    Love the ideas about landscape fabric, mulch, and rock, however, over time weed seeds will float in from the wind and land in this area. You will eventually have some weeds! You will have to treat these weeds. Some people simply pour boiling water on them and they will wither up and die. Another idea may be to add cement sidewalk blocks. You will have seams where you can still get weeds but easy to pull out or treat. You could also make a freestanding deck to cover this area.
