How can I do a crisp 2-tone stain finish on a table?

I am making over some used bedside tables. I would like to use a 2 tone stain finish. I want to put my nephews names on top in a light stain with the bulk of the table in a drak stain. How do i get crisp lines around their names with no bleeding.

this would be tricky as the light stain should be done first. You could get crisp lines by stenciling and then using the same stencil (after stain is dried) cut the letters out of painters tape, place them letters carefully over your stencil work and then continue with darker stain. Or you could do this in reverse; cut stencil out of painters tape, place on tables, stain dark, remove tape and then stain that area light.
My concern is that the dark stain will bleed into the light stain through the wood grain below the surface
Best to apply a Sanding sealer first, but. Harder to stain. Better to stain first, then. Paint names on , then seal.
