How can I remove the rust (I think ) from my hand saw blade?

I have some sharp teeth hand saws and when I cut wood rust on the blades impedes the easy motion to saw through my wood. What an I do to help my saw glide through my wood?

Some mineral oil and fine steel wool should clean up the worst spots on the blade. The teeth themselves should clear up with some use.

My husband kept old car oil in a small tub of sand for dipping his tools in to prevent rust. It also works well to remove it, but you have to push it in and out quite a few times to undo the rust if it is surface rust. If it is damaging rust you need a new saw.

I just did this with a newish saw that hadn't been cleaned up before winter wo it had some rust this year. I rubbed it with a paste of baking soda and water then cleaned it off and sprayed on some WD-40. I let that sit a while then also rubbed off most of it. The WD-40 made it glide a lot more smoother again. I hope this helps you. Wishing you the best.
Barkeepers friend is great for removing rust with a green scrubby to take it back to metal. Then I'd use a saw blade oil on it or even WD-40 to keep it rust free and gliding easily through the wood.
