Hi all. I removed an ugly base off a thrifted lamp. Shouldn’t have!! Now, the rod is loose and I have nothing to secure it to on the bottom. I will add pics. Thoughts? Thanks!

    Hi Lauren,

It looks to me like you'll need to replace the bottom. I haven't done this before, but I would get or make a circle of wood a little smaller than the bottom, then drill a hole in the center. Next I'd cut out a channel for the cord then paint and glue the piece of wood to the bottom of the lamp. (make sure the channel is in the back of the lamp) To protect the surface where you put it, I'd glue on some felt. There may be another way to do this, but that's what I would do. Wishing you the best.

If the rod is too long, go to the hardware store and buy a shorter one.... they just screw in to both ends.... then you can just use elmer's glue to put a piece of felt on the bottom, if there is a hole to feed that wire through near the bottom of the lamp..

If there is no hole in the lamp, then I would get a piece of scrap wood 1"-1 1/2" at least the diameter of that pottery base. Track around the lamp base on the wood, cut with a jig saw, then drill a hole in the center the diameter of the lamp rod to feed through, and then another hole on the side of the wood base you just cut to the center of the center hole that will accomodate your wire. You will need to cut the plug off, and buy a replacement one.... they have the kind you just snap on without having to wire anything. Stain or paint the wood base.

I get my wood scraps, 12"x 1" from local construction sites, that are trim ends.... just ask. They use them around here for firewood starters.

You can order lamp bases on line. Look for companies that sell lamp parts or buy another cheap lamp with similar base and use that.

Just cut a disc of wood using the lamp as a template. Drill a hole in the center for the rod. Add some rubber feet. You may find a wood disc at Hobby Lobby or Michaels.
