HELP!! I washed my grand daughters dress which is white with red popping- I first soaked the dress in Oxi clean to make the white whiter- To my disappointment, the red pipping left some stained areas on the dress😞- Really want to get this clean before her Mom sees it😞- HELP

Mary, first of all, these things happen, and your daughter should thank you for trying so hard to clean her daughter's dress---- NOT blame you for possibly ruining it....IT'S ONLY A DRESS!

That being said, there's probably not much you can do at this point. But you can try a couple of things--- using a toothpick, try dotting a small amount of bleach on the spots to see if they can remove the dye. Make sure you put something between the dress layers so more dye doesn't leak through (like a piece of cardboard or an old, clean rag).

You can also try making a paste of aspirin and water and leave that on the stain for a bit and rinse....finally, try any other stain remover you can buy at the store.

PLEASE don't feel bad. These things happen and you are already sorry for it. My biggest pet peeve is why clothing manufacturers use ANY dark trim on white clothing (especially for kids!)----- they KNOW that you can't bleach the item without ruining the rest of it. Tsk! Tsk! Tsk!

Perhaps you can take it to a dry cleaners and see if they have a solution for you. It is so hard to wash white things with red trim--this has happened at my house too!

  • And from now on, anything that could possibly bleed, wash in cold water or hand wash. Do not pop in dryer unless no signs of bleeding are present.

  • There are these clever little sheets called color catchers. They are found in the store isle near the dryer sheets. They work great for catching any bleeding. Try fiddledd's advise with the bleach on a qtip and run it through the wash on cold with a color catcher sheet
