How can I make a large magnetic bulletin board?

My friend is a teacher and asked me to make a 5 feet by 5 feet game board for her classroom. Her current paper pieces are tattered with pin holes from corner to corner. I thought a framed magnetic board would work much better because she can move it with her when she moves to another classroom. Magnetic paint is too expensive. I was thinking about using tin sheets, but I am not sure what will work. The game board pieces have to stick to the magnetic board and remove easily. Any suggestions?

My mind is swirling. I wish I could see the tattered version so it would help me to envision how it will be used. That would give me a springboard to work around. The 'framed mag board" is a great start but will it have a specific working area for the pieces? For the pieces I have bought old ones from games at junk stores and spray-painted them white so I could adapt for what I needed.

As far as I believe tin is not very magnetic. I know at work I use a whiteboard and I know they are magnetic. Being big into diy I always try and make everything first. But if this was my project I would buy a large whiteboard from Amazon. You can get the large 48 x 36 for $56. I really cant think of a cheap way to do it. I would love to see it if you do decide to make one.

Rustoleum makes magnetic paint, just paint a large piece of plywood or resin board. Would it be better to add magnets to the pieces and then put metal on the wall?

You could try a metal recycling place for a sheet of anything magnets will stick to. Might even be free...old business cards can be taped to the back of lightweight pieces and hobby stores and Walmart's now sell magnetic tape. I found a lot of ways around my teachers budget by repurposing throwaway stuff. Made my husband nuts seeing all the 'trash' I brought home. Lol
Try asking at stores that have magnetic signs and paint it or put contact paper over it. Especially going out of business places.
