Buy the materials from a hardware store. add a rack under your current rack. BUT you will not be able to hang long dresses or long coats.

Using hacks...hang hangers vertically off each other using shower hooks or soda can tabs on neck of hanger. We also got a pole and hooks and hung it from the original rod with chain...easy.

tension rods, or wooden rod and a small cup like holder. go through your clothes first. if it doesn't fit you, purge your closet and keep what fits now. pack away any out of season clothes.

In my closet, I have a shelf that goes across from end to end. Then I have an upper rod and a lower rod....blouses go on top rod and slacks go on bottom rod. On the ends of the closet, I have hooks for hanging robes, night clothes, belts and scarves. On bottom half of my closet I have a shoe rack for shoes. On the other half side I have a clothes basket for dirty laundry or you can put covered bins to hold other things.

Here are some good ideas for making more space in the closet. The one with the extra rod hanging from a chain may help you. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/556687203931454891/
