Personally I love bright brass. BUT you could remove the glass, and spray paint the brass any color you want. Then put the glass back.
RustOleum makes a great line of spray paints that are in a hammered finish. You can paint the brass with it. You can also replace the glass with tile.
Or you could put a wood top.
