My shower walls are in good condition but dingy. I want to paint them so my question is do I need a special paint to use in them? And my shower rod is plastic can I paint it or will the plastic shower clips wear the paint off? Also are there any water proof murals that I could use? Thanks 😉👍
Well, there’s no definite answer to when one should stain a pressure treated lumber. I could see most of people recommending 6 months wait time. However, it isn’t universally applicable as people living in places with hot temperature might just go even after 3 months however if you are in colder location, waiting for a 6 months time would be a better bet. Also avoid doing it even if you have waited 6 months and it just been raining in your area. Just let the wood dry, an experienced carpenter could tell just by the touch if its ok stain your deck. Here I wrote a detailed account about choosing the right deck stain, it would be certainly helpful for you http://www.pressurecoach.com/what-is-the-best-deck-stain/.
I think you'll make a huge difference with your bathroom with paint. To paint over the wall panels, you'll need to clean them really well with a degreaser like TSP (trisodium phosphate). If the wall panels are glossy, sand them lightly to give the paint something to grip to and wipe the walls down again. Then prime with a stain blocking primer such as Kilz. After the primer dries, you can paint. Make sure you give the paint at least 48 hours to dry fully before showering so the steam doesn't leave streaks in the paint.
You can use the stain blocking primer for the water stains on the ceiling as well.
For the shower curtain rod, I would recommend buying one in the color you want. The paint will likely chip and you'd spend about the same amount of money in primer and paint compared to buying a new one.
Are you wanting to use the wall murals on the wall panels or in the shower since you asked about it being waterproof?
You could cover the walls in wall paper or if there are no tears in the current wall paper, you can paint over it, but you might need to first use a primer and then paint. You can ask the paint guys at your local hardware store and they should be able to tell you exactly what you need to do.
Hi there, Vonda. There are a BUNCH of sites that offer waterproof murals for bathrooms and spas. You might check them out before you decide to paint. How cool would it be to have your shower in a rainforest??? I Googled "waterproof murals for bathroom" and got a lot of hits. Happy hunting!
I am certain you can not just paint a shower surround with just regular paint. It will come off over time either by abrasion or water. You would need to use a paint that is specific for this type of job. Just to name a few...Rustoleum Tub and Tile, Watertite, or Bathworks are a good choice to work with. I am certain you will be happy once you are done. Have fun.
Rustoleum or Homax tub and tile paint. Epoxy based. Proper prep is the key. Do not take any shortcuts. Open windows and doors. Stuff has a strong odor. Anythin else will not survive water contact. Same paint for the shower rod or Krylon Fusion spray paint for plastic. Bonds on a molecular level.

Good luck with your bathroom makeover!
I'm not sure on the wall mural but I'm going to research one for the shower 😉 ty

Ty I appreciate it very much 👍
Most importantly have good ventilation when doing a job such as this. Also, your bathroom must have a good exhaust fan or mold will build up.
Having a mural in your bathroom isn't the same as having a mural in your shower. I would back away from that.
