How do I make a cacti and succulent pot plant in a large container but shallow what do I need to put into the pot to stop it from getting too wet

I always put styrofoam in the bottom of my pots. You use less soil and good for drainage.
You can also use a layer of pebbles at the bottom.
You could also try putting small stones or pebbles in the bottom of the pot.
some pea gravel in the bottom will work well
