Is there a way to spray weeds without killing monarch caterpillars?

You have all tried to help me figure out what is happening with all my monarch cats. Well I bought a new M.weed and put it in a different area of mypatio. NOW the disturbing facts I figured out yesterday. I am sick. I lost a total of 25 cats that I counted, probably missed others. I kept asking if certain plants might be poison to my cats. I live in a senior gated community where ourgrounds are kept up for us. It dawned on me yesterday that I am loosing my Cats, due to management spraying for weeds once a month right outside my 3-1/2ft Wall. I am sick, as I am sure this is what has happened to all my beautiful Cats. I have a new plant I had already purchased on the other side of my patio, but am sure this won't help as the spraying would still be only about5-6 ft from the plant. I guess I will just have to give up on helping the Monarchs survive, I live in Camarillo Ca. so weather is good for them from April until probably Sept. I could try and grab them when they are big enough to beput somewhere inside my garage???? until they hatch, but wouldn't be sunshine or air unless I have the door open. Thanks for all the previous help you guys offered me. So sad. I so loved watching them grown. This is why Ikept finding their little bodies all over my patio. Ughhhhhhhhhhh

Ask management not to spay in your area. Tell them that you are protecting the Monarch Catapillers and the spray is killing them. If they refuse, call your local college and see if you can find some one who deals with butterflies or can direct you to someone who can come and collect the chrysalis' and care for them till they hatch. Good luck.

I am going to try and catch the guys when they spray and ask them not to do my area. It is crab grass they keep away from the wall about 1ft. However, I

can't ask them not to do my neighbors area as we are duplexes but maybe

it would make it far enough away about 25ft where they are now, and by moving them to the end of my patio it would be about 40ft. Worth a try.

I also have read about people who grow the cats once big enough in a container that has air and covered with neting. Might try that as well. So frustrated as I also bought a fennel plant hoping for the Swallowtail in this area as well. Heres hoping. Thanx guys.

We collect them from egg size up and let them grow in an old aquarium. It is a bit messy and you need fresh milkweed leaves everyday. Maybe you can just keep the milkweed in a pot for them and move it when the nasty yard chemicals are coming. I believe you have a right to ask for advanced notice when toxic chemicals are being used . I released 31 gorgeous monarchs last year love them 😀

Thx Sadie. I have the new milkweed I bought in a diff. spot, but am told that the spray can travel along way, Also the little buggers crawl all over the place I find them everywhere running around. LOL But I will definitely just cut down the Mweed growing naturally where all the eggs were laid this year, and when they come take my Mweed into the house until they are done and for about an hour after they leave. Thx. WOW so lucky that you hatched them all. I'm sick that I lost 25-28 this year. one even made her crystallis and she also died in it. So sad. I love watching them grow and munch away. Thx again.
