How can I make over this table lamp (pic attached)?

Paint it! RustOleum Hammered spray paint would be my recommendation.

If your lamp has it's orginal finish and it is an antique and not a reproduction I would just find a shade. You may have to search high and low for a shade that works on that lamp. I have a free standing pole lamp just like that and it was hard to find a shade that worked. I have also seen some people paint these with chalk paint and distress slightly.

BTW: Your electrical outlet in the picture scares me! You have way too many things plugged in. It could be a fire hazard.

I would not use any "detail" painting. Lamp pictured here is iron. It once had slag glass panels. I painted it because the orig finish was dull. I think "details" would "gorp" it up. I suggest just one color.

Why not simply add a Mason jar shade? I did that in my staircase and I love the result. I bought jars at the Dollar store (you could chose a size that fits your lamp) and I spray painted them with Krylon Sea Glass Ice. I have very nice comments from our guests! :)

Some ideas for painted lamps. Shade you can get at homecenter. Use Rub and Buff for accents on lamp instead of gold or silver leaf.

I wouldn't paint or highlight this lamp. You'll just make it look like a cheap knockoff...

Since you have the real thing, I'd just oil and buff it out to protect the iron. Then go for an industrial look on the shade and bulb to make it modern.

Here's a bunch of ideas using glass shades with Edison or other modern light bulbs. Clearly, it's all based on your taste and style. But me, I'd trick this baby out in a high end industrial shade and bulb.

I looked and looked online for a long time until I found a shade that would work. Unfortunately from a store that is no longer open! Make sure you look at Columbia GB's ideas under "bunch of ideas"--there's some good ideas there!

If you find a shade the right size, but it is a harp attachment, instead of a collar/Uno that the lamp housing requires, using a clip on adapter/fitter on the bulb may work for you.

Rustoleum also makes a spray paint that looks like stone.

But I would clean and spray it either oil rubbed bronze or any of the metallic colors.

I think I would like either an Edison light bulb in the socket or go get a glass globe at lowes or Home Depot.
