Impatiens love shade.
Hostas - I planted them and they grew double They loved shade.
Hi Dorothy,
First you have to figure out if you have good dirt under your tree. Plants will compete with the tree for water and nutrients so if you've had problems with plants growing under trees before, that might be why. That would be the place to start. There are a lot of plants that grow in the shade. What you use depends on what you like and what works well in your area. Here I've used Myrtle, Woodruff, Pachysandra and Hostas. All of those come back each summer so that I don't have to plant every year. I'd suggest calling or visiting local nurseries to see what they have. You can also try the Extension service in your area. They can be very helpful. Wishing you the best.
Daylilies do well under my trees. And look lovely!
Hosta, daylilies, ferns.
Hostas look good under trees
Ooh, I've always loved Hostas but we don't have enough shade for them. Hydrangeas also love afternoon shade so they'd be perfect if under your trees gets a little morning sun.
