How can I use rocks to close the gap on the side of my steps?

I want to close the gap (hole) on the side of my 3 steps to the front door and then build a small paver patio. Can I use silicon to build the wall with rocks? And can I then just level the 6x20 area and lay down 24x18 cement pavers with just plastic liner underneath. Appreciate any tips.

No. Use landscape stone adhesive caulk for the wall. Silicone will not hold under weather conditions. For the pavers.... use landscape fabric under. You need drainage and plastic would hold water.

Great advice from William. In addition to the landscape fabric under the pavers take the time to do it right. Two inches of sand over the landscape fabric and three to four inches of compacted and leveled quarter minus gravel.

Pavers need to be set so they don't move, shift or break. It is worth taking the time to have a path that is carefree. 😊

You will need to level the ground first or the pavers will move/shift.

I suggest since you are a novice at this to watch a bunch of YouTube videos on the subject before you tackle this patio, otherwise you may be redoing it.... big pavers require a lot more base.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whpgIsFVtGk

Easier is smaller pavers.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFyA4KoBQ18&t=103s you can rent the equipment from Home Depot or an equipment rental place

Without seeing a picture of your space it's hard to image. Building the stone wall you should use the stone adhesive mentioned above. I wouldn't use just plastic under a paver patio because you could give yourself drainage issues. Sharon seems to have shared a few good links for creating a paver patio.
