Is there any material that can be placed directly on a basement wall?

Hi Cindy, do you mean as a cover? You can glue fabrics or paint over the concrete with a good latex paint. Or do you mean to decorate like hanging pictures and such? There is a tape called mahvelous tape that hangs really well on surfaces, it would work for light things. If your art work is heavy, you may have to drill holes and set screws though.

I think you'd need to be cautious about moisture being trapped behind things over the walls. Is there already HVAC servicing the basement? If so, then you should be ok.
