Will my oak leaf hydrangea bloom again after the winter?
The plant was over 6 ft tall last fall. It was trimmed to about 3 ft. Lots of big healthy leaves this spring and summer but no flowers.

You trim hydrangeas in the fall.
Hi Georgia,
They will bloom next year. Oak leaf hydrangeas bloom on last year's wood so when it was trimmed all of the flower buds for this year were trimmed off. However, this year's new wood will be next year's old wood so it will create flower buds after blooming and those will flower next year. The best time to trim hydrangeas is right after they bloom, before the ones that bloom on old wood have formed next year's flowers. Wishing you the best.
If you cut it down it will.
When you trim hydrangeas you cut from within the shrub to thin it out and very sparingly the outer edges. Just a branch here or there for shape. Don’t worry next season it will be back to normal.
