I have an area behind my yard that is full of mature trees but want to remove the brush and vines that are crawling up the trees. What do I use that won’t kill my trees?

If you mean any kind of herbicide it will kill all, no way around it because it goes to the root of the brush and vines as well as the trees, then into the soil and of course the runoff.

The best way is probably not what you want to hear is for you or hire someone to go in and manually clear it out, bag it up and compost or properly dispose of. If your county offers yard waste pickup, then look at their guidelines on what they accept.

Hand removal is the only way to keep your trees safe. You can work on it a bit at a time or hire it done, but any spray would harm your trees. :(

  • Just suit up and get out there and remove by hand. Dig out the vines making sure to get all the roots. No reason to use toxic chemicals unless necessary. Or hire a clean up crew if you don't want to do yourself.

Here is a different approach that was given to me, it does require a Round-Up

or Glyphosphorate Premixed, And yes you will be paying for there water but you will not be risking your self mixing it some of them come with a spray or stream pattern

nozzle / And that's good Now the application of the Yes! Weed Killer But first it's time to Glove Up!

Grove type should be the kitchen medium to heavy almost elbow long type gloves.

And do you have Pruning Shears or Loppers. this method requires 1 or the other.

You will need a empty soup can rinsed out, does not need to be super clean, and 3-4

Paper towels. Spray a little of the Weed. Killer in can,to be safe take label off can and write with marker 'Poison on can so others will know.

Now you cut the Vine and dab paper towel in can with spray mix in it and wet Both Cut ends 2,3,4 times the reason is when you cut the vine the plant goes into Survive

Mode and Sucks as much liquid it can Get, Hence Weed Killer!! and Do Not spray any thing(s) You want to keep Then give it 3-4 daysand it should show getting ill. And if

So the now weakened vines are still alive enough to pull out of the tree's.

And that part is when you ask any teens looking for a little spending $$. Get them tough, cheap work gloves and have them pull the vines out. Whew I cant believe I wrote all that. Good luck I have tried this and it Does work well . and the off brand Wd. Killers are way less than $15.00 to 20.00 a Gallon,at likeHome Depot, Lowes, Ace, and Most all Hardware stores. / Round-Up will be more. So go Gettum"
