You will need to fill any holes from the carpet installation, as well as, remove any glue. Sand and stain the stairs a color you like and seal with polyurethane.
Mika....My husband plans to remove carpet on ours but is planning to cover each step with an inch of oak wood because the wood that is under our carpet is rough and he wants it to look nice. Maybe your wood is better and you can do as Ann suggests. That would be a great idea if it is. Good luck!
Just tear off the carpet Mika and clean the stairs. Paint or stain them to finish them off.
Just pull it of then get a pliers pull off all staples then sand and paint
