Hi Maria, is the back of the mirror wood that can be screwed into? I think your best option here would be something a called a french cleat. You can ask at your local hardware store, they work really well for hanging heavy stuff on the wall.
We have a large wooden framed mirror and we screwed through the frame into the studs then made sure to paint them to match the frame.
I had a dresser with a very heavy mirror but I did not want to make holes in the wall of my rental. So instead, I threaded heavy twine through the hardware that came on the back of the mirror, and tied the ends of the twine around 1x4’s that were cut long enough to reach from the floor to a few inches above that hardware. Tied securely, that was enough to keep the mirror from sliding off the dresser on which it stood. A small bit of foam underneath the mirror further decreased the chance of slippage. Of course, if you want the mirror to be hanging from above, this will do you no good.
Yes, using a french cleat is a wise suggestion.
