How do I use angled upcycled coffee cans to store nails, screws, etc.?

I once saw a storage area in a janitor's closet that used metal coffee cans plus other smaller sized cans for storing nails, screws, etc. The cans were angled so you could easily see what they contained & reach into them without needing lids to keep the contents from spilling out.

My Uncle used to use old glass jars. Screw the lids into the exposed beams in your cellar and fill glass jars. (Or install a wood plank) Screw jars in place after filling with contents. You will be able to see exactly what is in the jars.
