How do I refurbish these drawer handles?

These are old, they have just the original paint on them. They are in great shape and I want to put them back on the dresser.

When you will buy polyurethane from Home Depot or any other store. The instructions are very clear on it. Or Use Paint Stripping products. There are several available at Home Depot. IF you want to repaint it, just sand and use chalk paint.. It will do it. Hope it makes sense, what I said.

      Have a great day,

Hi Ginny, you get get paint stripper that will work to take the paint off of hardware as well. I would ask your local Home Improvement store for one that is sold in your area. Good luck! Alternatively, you can also scrub them with steel wool and it might take a lot of it off.

You can boil some water in a pot on your stove and place the handles in the hot water for about 15 minutes. Take them out with a tongs and rinse them under cold water. Use a toothbrush a clean off the loose paint. It should all come off easily. If you want them to be just the original metal color spray them with a clear poly. If you want them to be another color use Rustoleum 2x or 4x spray paint for metal in the color of your choice.

    Hi Ginny,

You can put some baking soda in water and simmer the pot with the handles inside. It should take about 15 mins. I had heard about this idea so looked it up for you. This creator of this website also said that just plain water works! Wishing you the best.

The boiling water works wonderful. After you get them clean you can either paint with Rustoleum or seal with poly.
