    1. Cover the mirror with heavy-duty packing tape as a precaution against the glass cracking or shattering.
    2. Insert wooden shims in any gaps between the mirrorand the wall. ...
    3. With another shim beneath your pry bar to protect the wall, gently begin working the bar behind the glass.

”I want to ma” does that mean you want to make something with the mirror?

The mirror may be held on with clips or channels. It will slide out if it’s channels. If it’s 5’ wide, then it will be heavy. You might want help to avoid breaking it.

If it is mastic’d on the wall, it will break!

Therefore, one must wear a full face shield, gloves & long sleeve shirt. I would cover the vanity with a tarp or something to catch the glass shards & protect the vanity. The floor should be scanned for glass shards.

Yes, I want to make two smaller mirrors if it doesn't break.

I would check to see how it is attached. Usually they are screwed on with little clips. Just unscrew it and pull it down.

Ok, since you’re talking about cutting down a very large piece of glass, you need to learn how to and practice cutting glass.

Mirrors are usually 1/4” thick and that’s not really a beginner’s thickness of glass.

I can attempt to teach you how to cut glass on line, but honestly, you can have a glass shop cut it for you for about $15 and put a honed (not polished) edge on it.

If it is mastic’d to the wall, 97% it will come off the wall in pieces.

You can’t cut it, while it is mounted, because you have to snap it, after you score it with a sharp glass cutter. This also requires 2 sets of straight edges, a big work bench and tapping the glass after scoring this. Repeat, this is not a beginning glass cutting project.

So, what is your final objective? Do you want to hang a medicine cabinet in the middle?

Mastic is like a thick contact cement. If that’s what you have and you want to install a medicine cabinet in the middle between the two mirrors,

I would leave it there & either build a cabinet to fit on the counter & also be screwed into the ceiling framing, if the mirror is that tall,

or I would modify a premade cabinet to do the same.

Both would leave the mirror in tact.

What is your objective for 2 smaller mirrors?
