Kids are usually creative when it comes to pretending that their cardboard boxes are some kind of object - even if it doesn't look like the real thing to adults.

This is such an easy task! We helped make these for our sons at different ages (the boys were the real designers). We also made these for adults for a “drive-in movie” theme for a church fundraiser.

Rectangular boxes worked best. We had some with the open side up, just painted the outside, and put in a cushion as the seat. We used any round piece we could devise for the steering wheel, out of cardboard, plywood, a plastic strainer and a wood woven basket with the botto cut out. When the boys were young, the steering wheels were not attached to anything. In later years, we attached wheel shapes with big nails as axles so they would turn around, but not really go anywhere Steering and tire wheels. Our son at six instructed us to turn a rectangular box upside down and cut a hole just big enough for him to wriggle into. He wore a little bike helmet and that box became a race car. For adults, we used big pieces of poster paper to surround folding dining tables, then added cardboard on top for the frames of car windows, with plenty of room for fast food to be delivered through the side windows.

So you see, just cardboard and paint and creativity, and you can have a garage full of vehicles if you want them. Keep having fun! Jewell
