How can I make an attractive walkway on a steep slope?

I have a fairly steep UNEVEN slope going down into my yard. To the right of that is the deck on the back of the house. How can I make an attractive path/walkway/side walk that goes down the hill, only partially, and veers to the right? I'd rather not have a sharp right turn. (grading the slope is not really an option.)

It sounds like you need to add stairs. They can be large and wide or normal stepping stone size.

I have used landscape retaining wall blocks. They come in either 4" or 6" high. I dig out a flat area, place the blocks, and then fill in the area with gravel, flat stones, "step-ons", or what ever you want for a flat or small slope landings. See steps behind raised beds.

  Did that require heavy equipment? I don't have access to any & no money to hire a professional (that's why I'm a DIYer...lol).
  Do you think it could be done with blood, sweat, tears & and shovel?

  No heavy equipment needed. Strong back and weak mind is all you need. The big blocks are heavy, but 4" tall blocks are easier to move. You need a long level to get the initial row of blocks level, and a small level can be used to check side-to-side and front-to-back are level Rakes, and shovels are all you need other than the level. Get the ground at the step area fairly level and then pour on some sand to allow adjustments. Blocks can be split using a cold chisel and hammer. If you plan it right, you don't need to split any blocks.
