Cute idea
I went to the Goodwill and bought a heavy white milk glass vase, then found a larger blow to glue ontop of the vase, mine is in different colors. If you use clay pots you can do the same thing, find larger glass bowls and glue them on top, I also found a rathe rflat rock, to paint and glue onto the bottom of the pot like it's a door to get in

Here is a photo I have been keeping for my own use, hope it helps. The paints are acrylic, and the weather protectant on them is sprayed on with a lacquer made for acrylic paints you can get at any Walmart or paint store that sells spray paints. How exciting you are doing a similar one to mine! I was also going to paint on a front door (using a permanent marker to draw in the "wood" and the steps would be flat rocks, also paint on some arched windows and use marker to make the pane cross in the center, and even a flower box under each one. Hope this helps. I would use something like the bottom of a drink cup to trace the circles then paint them.
